Chilled water system/Chiller energy consumption calculation
Objective/ Method/Outcome
Objective: Calculates the energy consumption of chilled water system
Method: Determines if the Chilled Water Status is active and using the Supply and Return Water Temperature the Chilled Water System energy consumption is calculated using heat capacity equation
Outcome: This rule creates CTL.
Description
This rule calculates chilled water system/chiller energy consumption by using heat capacity equation. Five calculated trend logs are generated:
1. Cooling Load (Ton)
2. Cooling Load (kW)
3. Cooling Electricity Consumption(CUSUM)
4. Cooling Electricity Cost(CUSUM)
5. Cooling GHG Emissions(kgCO2e)(CUSUM)
This rule is part of the CopperTree Standard rule-set.
Default Priority
Low
Message
Chilled water system/Chiller cooling load, cumulative cooling electricity consumption, cumulative cooling electricity cost and GHG emission are calculated.
Rule Template
Insight Type: Energy
Trigger Type: Active High
Notes
1. Only one “Flowrate”, [LPS] or [GPM] is needed.
2. Only one “Chiller Status” is required when this rule is implemented for a chiller. The rest “Chiller Status” should be set to 0.
3. The input(s) that is(are) not used should be set to “0”.
4. Expected values for “Pump Speed” inputs are “100” if they are constant speed pumps or not available.
5. Expected values for “Pump Status” inputs are “0” or “1”.
6. Expected values for “Chiller Status” inputs are “0” or “1”.
7. CO2 emission factor is from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Default Values:
Const. – Specific Heat of Water [kJ/kg°C]: 4.2
Const. – Electricity CO2e Emissions Factor [(lbCO2)e/MWh]: 953
Const. – Energy Rate [$/kWh]: 0.1
