Fume hood airflow is not reaching setpoint

Objective/Method/Outcome

Objective: Determines if the airflow was reaching setpoint

Method: Compares the recorded airflow to the setpoint to detect if the airflow is below the acceptable threshold (10% by default) for more than the acceptable amount of time during occupancy.

Outcome: Generates an insight.

Description

Fume hood airflow is unable to reach setpoint, which may have negative health and safety implications.

This rule is part of the CopperTree Standard rule-set.

Default Priority

High

Diagnosis

  1. Check fumehood control and programming logic.
  2. Review airflow sensor calibration.

Message

Fume hood airflow is below setpoint, which may have negative health and safety implications.

Rule Template

Insight Type: Fault Detection

Trigger Type: Active High

Logic

Logic for determining the fume hood airflow is below setpoint

Inputs

Input Unit Tags Description
Fume Hood Exhaust Airflow Exhaust Air CFM The recorded fume hood airflow
Insight Threshold – Allowable Hours The minimum amount of time that the airflow can be below setpoint to trigger insight
Fume Hood Exhaust Airflow Setpoint  Exhaust Air CFM Setpoint The exhaust air airflow setpoint
Fume Hood Status Fume Hood Occupancy The status of the fume hood
Airflow Threshold % The acceptable % decrease from setpoint

Notes

Default Thresholds:

  • Airflow Setpoint Threshold: 10%
  • Threshold – Weekly Acceptable Hours: 8
