Hydronic Differential Pressure requires tuning

Objective/Method/Outcome

Objective: Determines if the Hydronic Differential Pressure requires adjustment or calibration.

Method: Compares the recorded hydronic pressure and the hydronic pressure setpoint to determine if they vary more than determined threshold for longer than acceptable.

Outcome: If the hydronic pressure does not match the setpoint for longer than acceptable during occupied hours, an insight is generated.

Applicable System

Chilled Water System, Hot Water System

Description

Determines if hydronic differential pressure control requires tuning by comparing differential pressure to setpoint during active hours. The cost per hour is set to $0 by default.

This rule is part of the CopperTree Standard rule-set.

Diagnosis

  1. Input sensor(s) faulty or miscalibrated. Verify input sensor(s) operation.
  2. Automatic control has been overridden. Revert equipment back to automatic control.
  3. Issue with control loop. Review and modify controller tuning parameters.

Message

Hydronic differential pressure deviates more than 15% from its setpoint for longer than the specified threshold.

Logic

Logic for determining if hydronic differential pressure requires tuning

Inputs

Input Unit Tags Description
Hydronic Differential Pressure Chilled Water Differential Pressure, Hot Water Differential Pressure The recorded differential pressure
Hydronic Differential Pressure SP Chilled Water Differential Pressure Setpoint, Hot Water Differential Pressure Setpoint The predetermined setpoint for differential pressure
System Active Hot Water System Enabled, Chilled Water System Enabled Status of the system, used to determine if the chilled water or hot water system has been enabled
Acceptable Time Outside Range per Week Hr The maximum amount of time the differential pressure and its setpoint can vary without creating an insight.
Cost per Hour $ The cost the variance from setpoint per hour. By default this is set to 0.
Days of operation annually This is used to project potential savings

Notes

The rule is disabled if the differential pressure is less than 50% of its setpoint to prevent misleading scores.
