Apply Rules using Suggested Rules and Manage Rules
Description
You can apply a rule to many Systems at once instead of one at a time. Both methods start with tags: Kaizen compares each System’s tags against every Rule Template to find what matches.
| Method | Best for | Trade-off |
| Suggested Rules | Speed: applies a rule with its default values to every matching System in a few clicks | Cannot adjust an input before applying |
| Manage Rules (recommended) | Control: review and fix inputs, then reuse the setup across many Systems | A few more steps |
This article assumes the rule you want to use is already built or imported into the building. See Import Rule Templates Using Systems.
Select the Systems
From the Building Dashboard:
- Click the Systems tab.
- Check the box for each System you want the rule applied to, for example five fan coil units.
- The Manage Rules and Suggested Rules options become available at the top of the list.
Option 1: Apply with Suggested Rules
- Open Suggested Rules. Kaizen reads every tag on your selected Systems and compares them with every rule in your building and the Community Library.
- Filter the list to rules already in your building. This is recommended, as you are more likely to know how they work.
- Each rule shows how many of the selected Systems can use it, for example “2/3 selected systems can use this rule”.
- Check the rules to apply and click Submit. The rules are applied with their default values to every matching System in a few seconds.
Option 2: Apply with Manage Rules
- Click Manage Rules. A banner confirms how many Systems you are managing rules for.
- Check the match label on each Rule Template:
- Full Match – every input fills automatically from tags.
- Partial / No Match – some tags did not line up and inputs need to be set.
- Click the gear of the rule you want to apply.
Configure Each System’s Inputs
- Cycle through the selected Systems with the arrows, or jump to one from the drop-down.
- Check what filled in from tags. A mistagged point can pull in the wrong trend, so fix it here.
- Adjust constants as needed, for example a larger allowed deviation for a mechanical room than for typical spaces.
Search by Keyword Instead of Tag
Use this when a System has no match because its tags are not set up.
- Switch the input type to Keywords.
- Type the unique part of the point name. The list filters as you type.
- Add characters until only the trend you want remains checked.
Apply the Configuration to Every System
If your Systems share a naming structure, one keyword setup can cover all of them.
- Click the gear menu on an input.
- Choose Apply this input configuration to all selected systems, or to incomplete systems only.
- Cycle through the Systems to check each one landed on the right points.
Save and Verify
- Click Save. Kaizen applies the rule to every System in your selection.
- Return to the Systems page and confirm the rule appears under Working Rules for each System.
The rule runs automatically overnight and keeps running on this configuration as long as data flows.
