KbA0025: CopperCube Upgrade from version1.6
Description
Version 1.6 Coppercubes have an intermittent hardware issue that qualifies them for a free hardware upgrade. This is the only way to upgrade the Coppercube to firmware version 1.11, 1.20, and newer versions.
Order Replacement CopperCube
Order a replacement cube from Delta RMA or from CopperTree if not a Delta Partner. Please include the new order number (no charge, for tracking purposes), cube serial number, MAC address, and shipping address. Two cases arise:
- Cube is archiving and we have data to transfer — order a version 1.11 CopperCube
- Cube is not archiving or does not have useful data — order a current version of the CopperCube
When a new CopperCube is received, ensure the technician is prepared with:
- storage device with a minimum write speed of 50MB/sec (this will directly relate to backup time and slower will work but take longer)
- empty 64GB or larger USB thumb drive, formatted with NTFS (and a backup in case it fails). Note that cheap USB drives are prone to failure. USB hard drives generally are more reliable and faster. A smaller size USB may work, depending on how much space the CopperCube reports as available on the status page.
- laptop with PuTTY and screen connect (or free TeamViewer v11 ) installed
- connection to Internet on-site (wired or wireless on-site, or knowledge and cables to tether from a cell phone)
- either 2 wired network ports or 1 wired and 1 wireless and any required network cables to connect a laptop to the CopperCube and to the internet simultaneously
- backup script copied to a USB thumb drive
When the CopperCube arrives, schedule a site visit. Plan for six hours, but will only require some interaction, longer if you do not have a fast USB drive.
