KbA0009: CopperCube and VPN access

Description

In the scenario where the CopperCube is not installed in the building that you need to collect data from, you need to use a VPN to access the network. This Knowledge Base Article (KbA) describes the CopperCube capabilities.

VPN to create one unique network

The CopperCube is able to communicate through a VPN if the VPN is transparent to the network. Such VPNs require two VPN devices (one at each end of the VPN link). The devices are configured to recognize each other and establish the VPN link. This is the I.T. solution for joining remote buildings/offices together.

VPN into a network

The desktop method of VPN into a network is not the joining of two networks but the inclusion of one device into an existing network. This is the VPN situation most people think of as a VPN. It requires a VPN client on the device to connect to the VPN device (gateway) at the other end. The Coppercube does not support this feature.
